The 2023 TCI Oceania Conference will be the perfect event for you to upskill and (re)connect with cluster and regional development practitioners from across the Oceania region.

Over the course of the three days, stakeholders will hear from experts on how to create sustainable people-centric innovation ecosystems and will explore how these ecosystems are the engine rooms for transforming industries and regions. Case studies will be used to show how industry, researchers and government are united around common challenges and growth opportunities.

The conference will offer a variety of cluster-focused experiences, including the opportunity to visit cluster ecosystems within the region where you will hear stories of how people are leveraging their extensive connections, using their local know-how, goodwill and capability to design new ways of doing things, and projects with impact.

Finally, the conference will discuss the importance of integrating the human element around all hard infrastructure and technologies for unlocking real value.

Day 1

Advancing Technologies Innovating Ecosystems: Preparing for new Industry 5.0 Benchmarks in Global Economies

We kick off with an interactive workshop, supported by UniSA, with keynote speaker, Professor Göran Roos. This workshop will discuss the challenges and opportunities in technology adoption that can position Australia as a proactive participant nation to achieve the expectations of the new Industry 5.0 global agenda. Join us to learn how your business must adapt to the rapid changes in global value chains and how you can help the Australian industry prepare for these global challenges.

Day Two will be full of insightful and inspirational content to help you explore the challenges and opportunities of people-centric ecosystems. Hear from keynote speakers, Phil Preston and Dr Allan O’Connor, and immerse yourself in fruitful discussions in cluster panel sessions and master classes from leading practitioners.

Phil Preston - The Most Powerful Question You Will Ever Ask (and it isn’t ‘Why?’)

Collaborating across teams and organisations on complex projects is hard work, and knowing the purpose or ‘why’ you are working together is certainly important. However, there’s an even more powerful question that needs to be addressed. In this keynote session, Phil Preston will outline the role of purpose in achieving high performance and positive impact before revealing the powerful question and key tips that will help you succeed.

Join us for dinner at the beautiful Cathedral Hotel, a heritage-listed venue at the southern end of North Adelaide.

 

Day 3

9am - 4pm Wednesday, 17th May 2023

On the third and final day, we will enjoy a unique cluster tour experience and visit some of Adelaide’s best attractions whilst learning about the region’s emerging and existing clusters. We will travel to Tonsley and enjoy a tour of the Innovation Precinct, followed by lunch and wine tasting at Bec Hardy Wines and a visit to the Australian Space Discovery Centre, with more to follow!

These sessions will revolve around the hive of clustering activity in Adelaide, providing practical insights and tools to cluster practitioners from everywhere in the Oceania region.

In this keynote session, Phil Preston will outline the role of purpose in achieving high performance and positive impact before revealing the powerful question and key tips that will help you succeed.

    Phil is a recovering investment manager who has spent the last 15 years working on cross-sector and purpose-based challenges. He was invited by Harvard Business School's Professor Michael Porter and Mark Kramer to Boston in 2013 to help advance the role of purpose in core business, and more recently authored Connecting Profit with Purpose. Phil is the host of The Purpose Edge podcast and in his spare time enjoys trail running, keeping up with global affairs and Nordic noir tv shows!

  • Dr Allan O’Connor is Associate Professor Enterprise Dynamics and Co-Executive Director of the Centre for Enterprise Dynamics in Global Economies at the University of South Australia.

    As an active TCI member, His research informs practicing entrepreneurs, executive management teams, policy-makers, and regional development agencies on how to create opportunities and manage the resources necessary to foster and develop innovation and entrepreneurship.

    Allan led the establishment of the Australian Cluster Observatory in 2014, has published an edited volume on Integrating Innovation in South Australia in 2015, and has pioneered research on entrepreneurial ecosystems since 2014/2015. In 2020 and 2021, he was recognised as Australia’s leading researcher in innovation and entrepreneurship by the Australian newspaper.
